The Pressure component of ASSETS is determined by applying a simple model to compare anthropogenic nutrient loading and natural background concentrations. The model compares land based and oceanic nutrient sources making the assumption that background nutrient loads from the watershed are negligible compared to human. The model factors in potential nutrient inputs from oceanic sources thus addressing the question of whether management measures would be successful. The model result is combined by matrix with an estimation of susceptibility of a system for determination of the final Overall Human Influence (OHI) on nutrient delivery and development of eutrophic symptoms.
